4:15 pm - 5:15 pm: Mr. Mark Murdock: Therapeutic Lasers
Pain is the most common reason for physician consultation in the United States. One out of three Americans is affected by chronic pain annually. The number one reason for missed work or school days is musculoskeletal pain. Currently, accepted therapies consist of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, steroid injections, opiate pain medications, and surgery, each of which carries specific risk profiles. What is needed are effective treatments for pain that have an acceptably low-risk profile. For over forty years, laser light therapy (also known as photobiomodulation) has been shown to reduce inflammation and edema, induce analgesia, and promote healing in various musculoskeletal pathologies. This session provides an opportunity to experience hands-on laser therapy demonstrations. This is a "can't miss" event that will elevate any practice to the next level clinically.

8:00 am - 9:15 am: Dr. Morgan Mullican & Dr. Mark Sanna: Weight Loss, Health, and Your Practice: Shifting the Paradigm for Alternative Health Care - Part 1
Promoting weight loss through dietary restriction and behavior modification rarely succeeds, often results in weight cycling (repeated bouts of weight loss and regain) with the potential for serious physical and psychological health risks and contributes to a growing epidemic of dangerous eating disorders. Practitioners and advocates of alternative and complementary health care must not fall into the trap of merely "plugging in" alternative therapies to this flawed paradigm. This session will examine the failure of current approaches to weight management, explore the underlying assumptions and basic components of an alternative paradigm for weight and health and discuss the practical implications of this information for alternative health care.
